Re: Finding the right fan

As discussed on a previous Journal entry, I discussed with the webmaster of RoryOn ,the possibilities of finding a fan to appear in the documentary. John Harrington is a fan who is based in Cork. I have emailed John to discuss aspects of the project, including the possibility of performing the voiceover for the documentary. It would be best if I am able travel to Cork on a second occasion once the film has been edited, so the voiceover is guaranteed to be synchronised.

Preparation for the trip to Cork

Cork City was Rory's home town. As discussed earlier, I will be travelling there as a number of people reside there whose comments are essential to capture the essence of Rory's personality. A more in depth discussion of the individuals being interviewed will be discussed at a later date when all can be confirmed.

Because Cork was Rory's hometown, there are many locations relevant to the documentary.

Crowley’s Music Shop is owned by Michael Crowley, who sold Rory the famous Stratocaster in 1963. Rory was a frequent visitor to the shop throughout his career and remained friends with Michael during this time.

Rory Gallagher Square was dedicated to the memory of Rory by the Cork City Council in 1997. The bronze sculpture in the square was created by Geraldine Creedon, who was a childhood friend of Rory.

The Rory Gallagher Music Library is situated at the back of Cork Central library and was opened by Rory's Mother in October 2004. The Library includes 25,500 sound recordings; 8,300 circulating book stock; and 740 music reference books.

Rory's grave is a 10 minutes drive from the City Centre at St. Oliver's Cemetry. The headstone was crafted by Irish Sculpture/Musician Eoin O’ Riabhaigh. The Design was influenced by the Melody Maker Award Rory recieved as Top Musician of the Year in 1972.
